An Awesome Chair for NLW 2014!
It's Wednesday of National Library Week, which means it is National Bookmobile Day! Keep an eye out for Linebaugh's Bookmobile making its way around Middle Tennessee today, and give them a honk or a wave in appreciation. Our Bookmobile allows us to spread the joy of reading outside of the library's walls, and we would like to say thank you to the people who take the time and the money to make that happen.
Also in accordance with National Library Week, let's discuss Judy Blume! The best-selling author and intellectual freedom advocate is the 2014 National Library Week honorary chair. Judy Blume has discussed that she found her first favorite books sitting on the floor of the children's room of the public library in Elizabeth, New Jersey. She has written 28 books and recently co-wrote/produced the film adaptation of her YA novel Tiger Eyes. Blume was also the deserving recipient of the Margaret A. Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement from the American Library Association. Judy Blume's books are beloved around the world in many languages, and we wanted to highlight some of her books we have available in circulation for you, our patrons. As always, click on the linked book title to be directed to LPLS's catalog to reserve a copy!
These titles are just a small selection of Judy Blume's very popular works. We hope you find an awesome new read or rediscover an old favorite of our awesome honorary chair for this year's National Library Week, Judy Blume!

National Library Week
Research conducted in the mid-1950's showed that Americans were spending less on books and more on radios, televisions, and musical instruments. Concerned that Americans were reading less, the American Library Association and the American Book Publishers formed a non-profit organization called the National Book Committee in 1954.
The committee developed a plan for NLW based on the idea that once people were motivated to read, they would support and use libraries. The first National Library Week was observed in 1958 with the theme "Wake Up and Read!"
After the second NLW was observed in 1959, the ALA Council voted to continue the annual celebration.
NLW is observed each year, generally during the second full week, in April.
Celebrations that take place during NLW include: National Library Workers Day (Tuesday) National Bookmobile Day (Wednesday), and Celebrate Teen Literature Day (Thursday).
